Delhi summers are quite brutal and the city literally runs on drinks like falooda or shikanji. If you happen to visit Chandni Chowk someday, do make a point to try this refreshing flavorful sharbat.

What is Mohabbat Ka Sharbat?

Sharbat = drink prepared with fruits or flowers. Mohabbat Ka Sharbat is a fragrant drink made with milk, sugar, water melon juice, cubed water melon, ice cubes and rooh afza (rose syrup). This sharbat is very popular in Jama Masjid during Ramzan & Eid.

It is an amazing way to start summer days. A tall glass for breakfast is super cooling for the tummy. You can skip or reduce the sugar if you wish- just use rooh afza and watermelon.

Why is it Called Mohabbat Ka Sharbat?

Also called pyar mohabbat ka sharbat, this drink got its name from owner of the shop who is known as Pyaar Mohabbat Sharbat Wala. His small theta/shop attracts hundreds of customers each day to sample this delicious drink.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make Mohabbat Ka Sharbat.
  • Whole Milk - For the best taste, whole milk best. You can use half and half as well for a richer taste.
  • Rooh Afza or any culinary grade rose syrup. Rooh Afza is easily available in indian stores.
  • Water Melon- Juiced and cubes. I simply blend seedless water melon for the juice.
  • Rose Water - If you have rose water at home, do use it, it intensifies the rose flavor.
  • Other Ingredients - Sugar, rose petals and nuts(optional) for garnish.

How To Make This Sharbat at home?

Tips

  • Storage - Once mixed, the sharbat is good refrigerated for 3-4 hours.
  • Choose a sweet watermelon for making juice and for cubing.I don't recommend using store bought juice.
  • Since there are a lot of sweet components here - rose syrup, water melon juice & watermelon cubes, I suggest that you go a little light handed on sugar at the beginning. You can always sweeten more later.
  • Preferably, mix the sharbat right when you are ready to serve however you can prep the water melon (juice & cubes) and rooh afza milk beforehand.
  • Chop the water melon into bite size pieces.
  • You can add some green cardamom for added flavor.
  • Serve with both a spoon and sipping straw.
  • If you have time and wish, you can reduce the whole milk a little bit for extra flavor.Chill the milk before using.
  • For a vegan version, simply use almond or cashew milk. Dont use coconut or oat milk.
